New Jersey is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the Northeastern United States. It is bordered on the north and east by the state of New York; on the east, southeast, and south by the Atlantic Ocean; on the west by the Delaware River and Pennsylvania; and on the southwest by Delaware Bay and the State of Delaware. New Jersey is 
the fourth-smallest state by area but the 11th-most populous, with 8,882,190 residents as of 2019 and an area of 8,722.58 square miles, making it the most densely populated of the 50 U.S. states. Its largest city is Newark. All but one county in New Jersey lie within the combined statistical areas of New York City or Philadelphia. New Jersey was the second-wealthiest U.S. state by median household income as of 2017. The area was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes such as the Lenape along the coast. In the early 17th century, the Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements. The English later seized control of the region, naming it the Province of New Jersey. It was granted as a colony to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. At this time, it was named after the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, Carteret’s birthplace. New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War.

Passaic County
Passaic County is a county located in the U.S. state of New Jersey that is part of the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 501,226, reflecting an increase of 12,177 from the 489,049 counted in the 2000 Census, retaining its position as the state’s ninth-most populous county. As of 2014, the county’s Census-estimated population was 508,856, Its county seat is Paterson. It is part of the New York metropolitan area. The most populous place was Paterson, with 146,199 residents at the time of the 2010 Census, more than 29% of the county’s population, while West Milford, covered 80.32 square miles, the largest total area of any municipality, more than 40% of the county’s area. Passaic County was created on February 7, 1837, from portions of both Bergen County and Essex County.
Bergen County
Bergen County is the most populous county in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2019 Census estimate, the county’s population was 932,202, an increase of 3.0% from the 2010 census, which in turn represented an increase of 20,998 (2.4%) from the 884,118 counted in the 2000 Census. Located in the northeastern corner of New Jersey and its Gateway Region, Bergen County is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area and is directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan, to which it is connected by the George Washington Bridge.
Bergen County is divided into 70 municipalities, but has no large cities. Its most populous place, with 43,010 residents at the time of the 2010 census, is Hackensack, which is also its county seat. news Mahwah covered the largest area of any municipality, at 26.19 square miles (67.8 km2).
In 2015, the county had a per capita personal income of $75,849, the fourth-highest in New Jersey and ranked 45th of 3,113 counties in the United States. Bergen County is one of the wealthiest counties in the United States, with a median household income of $81,708 per the 2010 Census, increasing to an estimated $84,677 in 2014, which was almost 18% higher than the $71,919 median statewide. The county hosts an extensive park system totaling nearly 9,000 acres (3,600 ha).
Morris County
Morris County is a county located in the U.S. state of New Jersey, about 30 mi (48 km) west of New York City. According to the 2010 census, the population was 492,276, up from the 470,212 at the 2000 Census, As of the 2019 Census estimate, the county’s population was 491,845, making it the state’s 10th-most populous county, and marking a 1.5% increase from 2010. The county is part of the New York Metropolitan Area and is divided into 39 municipalities, but has no large cities. Its county seat is Morristown. The most populous place was Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, with 53,238 residents at the time of the 2010 Census, while Rockaway Township covered 45.55 square miles (118.0 km2), the largest total area of any municipality.
Essex County
Essex County is a county in the northeastern part of New Jersey. As of the 2019 Census estimate, the county’s population was 798,975, making it the state’s third-most populous county, an increase of 3.1% from the 2010 United States Census, when its population was enumerated at 783,969, in turn a decrease of 1.2% (9,664 fewer residents) from the 793,633 enumerated in the 2000 census. In 2010, the county dropped down to third-largest, behind Middlesex County, and was one of only two counties in the state to see a decline between 2000 and 2010 (Cape May County being the other). Its county seat is Newark, the most populous city in the state. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area.
Hudson County
Hudson County, a county in the U.S. state of New Jersey, lies west of the lower Hudson River, which was named for Henry Hudson, the sea captain who explored the area in 1609. Part of New Jersey’s Gateway Region in the New York metropolitan area, Jersey City is its largest city and county seat.
As of the 2019 Census estimate, Hudson County was the fastest-growing county in New Jersey compared to 2010; the county’s population was 672,391, making it the state’s 4th-most populous county, an increase of 9.0% from the 2010 United States Census, when its population was enumerated at 634,266,[ in turn an increase of 25,291 (+4.2%) from the 608,975 enumerated in the 2000 Census. Hudson County is the fourth-most populous county in the state. Hudson County is the geographically smallest and most densely populated county in New Jersey and the sixth-most densely populated county in the United States with 13,731.4 residents per square mile of total area in 2010, and 14,973.9 per square mile in 2017.
